Picturing America through the Eyes of African Americans

On Tuesday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m., author Rochele Alers will lead a book discussion on This Side of Brightness by Colum McCann. When an Irish immigrant is killed building the New York City subway, a black co-worker supports the man's family by marrying the widow. Copies of this book are available at the Circulation Desk. Register for this program in the Reference Department at 516-379-3274, ext.505. This once-a-month book discussion is made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities Picturing America Programming Grant.
