A Tribute to Peggy Lee presented by the Diane Hoffman Jazz Quartet

On Sunday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m., Enjoy some of Peggy Lee's biggest hits performed by the Diane Hoffman Jazz Quartet. Peggy Lee was first propelled to fame in the 1940s when she sang with the Benny Goodman Band. She wrote hundreds of songs and was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Pete Kelly’s Blues.

Dennis Blackwell, Baritone

On Sunday, May 15, 2:30 p.m., Mr. Blackwell will perform at the Library. A versatile artist who has received critical acclaim for his work in opera, concert, recital and musical theatre, he has also appeared with the New York City Opera, New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, and Caramoor Opera, among others.

Freeport Community Chorale Spring Concert

On Sunday, May 22 at 2:30 p.m., Maestro Gerry Kirby will conduct the chorale in a medley of extraordinary music.

Martin Luther King Civic Reflection: Community Conversations

On Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m., join Pastor Eddie Jusino of First Presbyterian Church of Freeport in some engaging dialogue about the contributions Martin Luther King, Jr., made during his lifetime and how he helped to make our world a better place. To register for this program, please call librarian Maryellen Cantanno at 516-379-3274, ext. 501 by December 20. There will also be a community fair in the Library lobby. This program is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities.

Steal Away: The Story of a Homesteader and Exoduster

On Sunday, February 6 at 2:30 p.m., join us for a one-woman narrative written and performed by Penny Musco. Set in 1880, Steal Away weaves together historical accounts of African Americans who sought free land by taking advantage of the Homestead Act of 1862, and their exodus from the South. These homesteaders called themselves Exodusters, likening their flight to the biblical exodus of Moses and his fellow slaves out of Egypt.

Dancing: Intrinsic Element of Salsa

On Sunday, February 27 at 2:30 p.m., Mr. Jose Obando will talk about percussion in salsa, discuss social contact dancing, and bring along some instruments from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Naazir Person Jazz Ensemble

On Sunday, February 20 at 2:30 p.m., enjoy this tribute to African American jazz artists performed by Naazir Person and his ensemble of elite professionals.

Celebrating Chinese New Year!


On Sunday, January 30 at 2:30 p.m., the Chinese Theatre Works will perform Chinese music on the guzheng (zither) and other traditional Chinese instruments. This program includes an introduction to Chinese folk and classical music, as well as the lore and mythology of the instruments.

The Joan Roberts Players

On Sunday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m., the Joan Roberts players which include vocalists Jason Schoenberger, Gina Haver, Samuel Reiff, and pianist Charles Levi will perform Broadway highlights and popular standards. Ms. Roberts was the original Laurie in Oklahoma!, and she has had a career spanning more than 50 years.

Jerome Kern Jazz

On Sunday, January 9 at 2:30 p.m., the Paul Joseph Quartet will play inspiring instrumental jazz renditions of classics including “All the Things You Are,” “Yesterdays,” “The Way You Look Tonight.” This distinguished quartet includes drummer Mike Corn, bassist Edgar Mills, and the mesmerizing violinist Susan Mitchell.

Jun Luke Foster, pianist

On Sunday, January 16 at 2:30 p.m., this remarkably talented eighteen-year-old, now attending Yale University, has been performing in piano recitals, concerts, competitions, and master classes since the age of eight. According to one critic, “It is rare even among professionals to hear Chopin played at this level of understanding.” This concert is made possible by funds from the Mildred and Dr. Rudolph Joseph Foundation.

Holiday Caroling

On Thursday, December 23 at 4 p.m., join us around the tree in the lobby as the superb Select Chorale and Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Monique Campbell-Retzlaff, present a selection of holiday carols and songs celebrating this joyful season.

The Holly and the Ivy: A Long Island Tradition

On Monday, December 20 at 2:30 p.m., Janet Emily Demarest will present a beautiful piano program with sing-alongs that will trace the unfolding of Yuletide history, folklore, and traditions celebrated by the various cultures on Long Island. Ms. Demarest is an educator, historian, and storyteller in residence at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

Jeffrey Biegel, pianist


On Sunday, December 12 at 2:30 p.m., Jeffrey Biegel will play works by Bach, Chopin, and Gershwin. His electrifying technique has received critical acclaim worldwide. This concert was chosen by the Library’s Music Advisory Committee and is made possible in part, by funds from the Dr. Rudolph and Mildred Joseph Foundation.

Buyu Ambroise and the Blues in Red Band


On Sunday, December 5 at 2:30 p.m., come listen to the unique sounds of traditional Haitian rhythms woven together with contemporary jazz. Buyu Ambroise and the Blues in Red Band will be playing selections from their CDs Blues in Red and Marasa. This group has played at jazz venues in New York City, Miami, Boston, Montreal, and Haiti.

The Waterfront Six featuring vocalist, Micki Grant

On Sunday, November 28 at 2:30 p.m., the Freeport Memorial Library presents this unique Dixieland/swing band specializes in tunes from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. The band will perform such favorites such as It Had to Be You, After You’re Gone, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, St. Louis Blues, and Avalon. Artie Miller, a versatile clarinetist, will perform his rendition of Begin the Beguine.

Kevin Maynor, Bass - Sunday, September 27, 2:30 p.m.

Kevin Maynor is the first apprentice artist from the West to study at the Bolshoi in Moscow. He is a Fulbright Award winner, a recipient of the George London Award, and a Richard Tucker Career Grant winner. Mr. Maynor will perform Die Winterreise (The Winter Journey) by Franz Schubert and other works. This program was made possible by a generous donation from the Dr. Rudolph and Mildred Joseph Foundation.

Nicholas Pappone - Sunday, September 20, 2:30 p.m.

At the age of 13, after seven years as a child actor, Nicholas Pappone abandoned the stage for the violin. He will perform works by Bach, Franck, Mozart, Kreisler, Wieniawski, and Rachmaninoff.

Marianela Santurio - Sunday, September 13, at 2:30 p.m.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Marianela Santurio, a world renowned Cuban American pianist will present masterworks by outstanding Cuban and European composers.

Merilee’s Melodies: The Music of Harry Warren

Presented by vocalist Merilee Kaufman on Thursday, August 27, at 2 p.m. Ms. Kaufman has studied piano, jazz-dance, ballet, voice, and acting. Harry Warren wrote over 700 songs including “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby”, and “That’s Amore”.
