Learn about authors who have moved on to other places, but have left a legacy of interesting literature as well as fascinating stories that enrich the history of Freeport. Freeport Author: Lisa-Anne Ray-Byers

On July 18, 2007 Freeport author Lisa-Anne Ray-Byers presented copies of her book, They Say I have ADHD, I say Life Sucks: Thoughts from Nicholas to the Freeport Memorial Library.

Author Lisa-Anne Ray-Byers is a native of Bermuda. She immigrated to the United States after completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders from Andrews University in Michigan. She has worked in education and special education for two decades with children of all ages. She has a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Adelphi University. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Multicultural Education from the College of New Rochelle. Ms. Ray-Byers is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist and is currently employed in the Hempstead School District. In addition to her duties as an educator, the author also writes a weekly question and answer column in four local newspapers entitled Ask Lisa-Anne. Her column covers topics in education, education law, special education, and related issues.

The Actors’ Colony in Freeport

7 p.m.
In the 1910s and 1920s, Freeport was known as the Entertainment Capital of Long Island. Many actors, musicians, songwriters, and entertainers came to Freeport for the summer. This four-part presentation will include: the L.I.G.H.T.S Club and its members, actors who lived in Freeport, and celebrity visitors to Freeport.

The Library is bringing back its popular program to help native Spanish speakers improve their English conversation skills and help native English speakers improve their Spanish conversation skills. Participants alternate speaking in English, then in Spanish, in 15-minute intervals. There is no teacher or instruction provided during these sessions. Light refreshments are available.

La Biblioteca continuará el programa popular para ayudar a las personas que hablan Español, a mejorar sus habilidades conversacionales en inglés, y las personas que hablan inglés, a mejorar sus habilidades conversacionales en español.
