A Soldier’s Story
On Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m., the Freeport Historical Society and Bernie Rader will present a lecture. As a young soldier in the 94th Infantry Division, 301st Regiment, Company K, during World War II, Bernie Rader, a longtime Freeport resident, was captured by the Nazis. Rader was among those soldiers who were rescued in a prisoner exchange between the Allied and German troops. Mr. Rader will show For One English Officer, a documentary about the POW swap that saved 149 Allied soldiers and airmen including Mr. Rader. He will entertain questions after the film. Refreshments will be served.
