Senior Property Tax Reduction for the Village of Freeport and Nassau County
On Monday, August 30 and September 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by appointment only, Mr. Mazza, a VITA volunteer, will be at the Library to help seniors, veterans, and those who are disabled complete initial application and annual renewal forms for property tax reductions. Applicants must have annual incomes less than $40,000. Those renewing their request must bring their renewal forms. Those who are filing for the first time may pick up an application at the Library. Picturing America Through the Eyes of African Americans
On Monday, August 9 at 7 p.m., Professor Denton Watson will lead a discussion on Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. Registration for this program will begin July 1 in the Reference Department, 516-379-3274, x505. Picturing America is a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities, distributed in cooperation with the American Library Association. The Institute of Museum and Library Services has provided major support for Picturing America

Computer Sale
On Saturday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Library will be selling used computers and related equipment via a ticket number system. Each system will be numbered and assigned a price and each participant will receive a numbered ticket If your number is called, you will be eligible to purchase one computer. The computers are sold “as-is.” You must be a Freeport resident, and over the age of 18 in order to participate in the sale. Please bring your Freeport Library card or valid ID. All sales are final and must be made in cash. If you have any questions, please call the Reference Desk at 516-379-3274, ext.505.

dential. This new service is provided through a partnership
with Family Service League and Family Place Long Island,
an initiative of Middle Country Public Library and funded
through a grant from the Horace Hagedorn Foundation.

FREE PROSTATE SCREENING EXAMS
On Monday, August 9, from 3:30-6:30 P.M., Senator Charles J. Fuschillo in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation and Bostwick Laboratories, will sponsor a no out-of-pocket cost prostate cancer screening at the Freeport Memorial Library. All men are welcome to get screened as part of the program, regardless of whether or not they have insurance. Screenings will include a digital rectal exam and a PSA blood test. Please bring valid ID containing an address such as a Library card or driver’s license. Participants will be notified of the exam results.
