Freeport Community Chorale Spring Concert

Maestro Gerry Kirby has given the Freeport community the gift of glorious choral music for many years. This year he will conduct the chorale in a medley of famous songs from Bach to Sondheim.

The Virtuoso Superstars of Classical Music

Presented by Phillip Malamud, Music Historian.

This is the fi nal lecture in a series of three, showcasing
different regions of the world that produced great
musicians. This program will focus on North and South
America. It will feature video recordings by the fi nest
performers of the past and present such as Isaac Stern,
Hilary Hahn, and Marta Argerich, and composers Chopin,
Beethoven, and others.

Jazz It Up with Weill and Wilder

Performed by Diane Hoffman & Co.
SUNDAY, MAY 3, 2:30 p.m.
This program highlights the works of Kurt Weill and Alec Wilder. Kurt Weill is best known for his score of The Three Penny Opera, while Alec Wilder wrote many pieces such as It’s So Peaceful in the Country, While We’re Young, and I’ll be Around.

The Lincoln Memorial

Presented by Louise Cella Caruso, art historian.

Architect Henry Bacon and sculptor Daniel Chester French are responsible for one of the most moving monuments of our history. Ms. Cella Caruso will present the story of the men behind this national memorial.

Legacy of New Deal Art on Long Island

Sponsored by the Freeport Historical Society.
MONDAY, MAY 11, 7 p.m.
Dr. Natalie Naylor, professor emerita of Hofstra University, will discuss the WPA and New Deal art on Long Island. Fifiteen minutes prior to the lecture, the group will meet at the Freeport
Post Office to view the murals of WPA artist William Gropper.

This past year the Library increased the number of computers available for adults from 13 to 32. A grant was secured to renovate the Children’s Room and to refurbish the circulation desk. During the coming year the Library plans to continue to reconfigure the adult area to provide more effective service.

For Everyone…
Book clubs include Talking About Literature, the Oprah Book Club, Soul with Heart, and Grupo de Conversación de Libros Latinos.

Electronic resources include over fifty subscription databases, including downloadable videos and audiobooks accessible from home through the Library’s website: www.nassaulibrary.org/freeport

For Children and Parents…
Programs include museum passes, tutoring, reading clubs, and parent/child workshops.

For Young Adults…
Programs for students in grades 7-12 include book, music, and film discussion groups, and a
summer reading club.

The support and guidance of volunteers – including the Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Library, and the Art and Music Advisory Committees – make these programs and services possible. Every Freeporter is encouraged to use the Library. The Library is open 7 days a week during most of the year, and 6 days a week during the summer.

The $149,609 (2.77%) overall increase will be funded by the Board using Capital Improvement funds. The proposed budget represents no increase to the taxpayer.
