Save the Date!

Our annual bus trip to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular will take place on Tuesday, November 29 and Thursday, December 8. The cost is $70 per person which includes cost of the show and travel to and from Radio City; lunch will be on your own. Freeeport residents may purchase tickets in the Library's lobby on Tuesday, November 1st; non-residents on Monday, November 7.

St. Francis Hospital Outreach Mobile Van

On Monday, October 24 at 10 a.m., the St. Francis Hospital Community Outreach Mobile Bus will visit the Library and provide free blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and cardiac screenings. Patient education will be provided. Physician referrals are needed for clients under the age of 18. No registration is required.

So You Want to Be a Ghost Hunter?

On Sunday, October 23 at 2 p.m., journey with Long Island's most famous pair of ghost hunters as they investigate Long Island graveyards and other haunted locations. Through video, still photography, and voice recordings, Joseph Flammer and Diane Hill of Paranormal Adventurers offer evidence of ghostly phenomena. The audience is encouraged to share their personal paranormal experiences. Please register at the Reference Desk.

Famous Freeporters: Saints, Sinners, and Stars

On Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m., join us as the Library welcomes Freeport High School class of 1956 to its 55th reunion and to a presentation on notable Freeporters. We will discuss the lives and accomplishments of local celebrities including Lou Reed, Harold Varmus, Elinor Smith, George Morton Levy, Erik Larson, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and more.

Resolving Disputes Using Mediation

On Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m., join Jennifer Roache and Greg Santi of R & S Alternative Dispute Solutions to learn about resolving your personal and professional disputes using mediation. Please register at the Reference Desk.

All About eBay

On Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to noon, Sharper Training Solutions will be at the Library to teach you how to buy and sell items using eBay, one of the most popular online auction websites. Please register at the Reference Desk.

Mind and Memory

On Wednesday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m., the Visting Nurse Association of Long Island will be at the Library to dispel myths about memory and give you tips for how to improve your memory and when to consult a physician. Please register at the Reference Desk.

Taxpayer's Forum

On Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m., Donald Clavin Jr., receiver of taxes for the Town of Hempstead, will be at the Library to explain how to lower your tax bill through property tax exemptions (Seniors, STAR, Veterans, Disability, Home Improvement, etc.). Find out how to challenge your assessment and receive a tax reduction. Learn about new payment options, and hear a preview of future programs.

WWE History program

On Sunday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m., Brian Shields, author of the WWE Encyclopedia, a program on the history of the World Wrestling Entertainment. This two-hour program will be very popular so please sign up at the Reference Desk.

Bernard Rader, WWII Veteran and POW

On Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. join Freeporter Bernie Rader, a rifleman for the 94th Infantry Division, 301st Regiment, who survived captivity and starvation as a prisoner of war, but found friendship among the local countrymen. In 2007, Mr. Rader was awarded the French Legion of Honor for all his efforts in the war.

On Saturday, September 17 from 2 to 4 p.m., join award-winning film producer and director Carol Mignano as he shows you how to effectively work your camera and shares his techniques on how to create memorable and professional-looking home videos. On Thursday, September 8 at 2:30 p.m., The Freeport Memorial Library and Sue Klein are delighted to invite you to enjoy the art of acting while sitting. We will read Neil Simon's Come Blow Your Horn, which can picked up at the Circulation Desk. Please register at the Reference Desk.

Senior Property-tax Reduction for the Village of Freeport and Nassau County

On Wednesday, September 7 and Monday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment only, Mr. Joseph Mazza will be at the Library to help applicants with annual incomes of less tha $40,000 to complete initial applications and annual renewal forms for property-tax reductions. Bring your renewal form or pick up an application at the Library. Please call the Reference Desk to schedule a one-hour appointment.

Signs of Nonviolence

Join us as we kick off the Library's participation in the Signs of Nonviolence campaign, a countywide, month-long initiative sponsored by Freeport Pride. The Library will display a banner throughout the campaign, and we have prepared a bibliography of books and materials dealing with nonviolence. The bibliography is available at the Reference Desk.

Anti-Bullying program presented by Jamie Isaacs



On Sunday, October 2 from 2 to 4 p.m., Jamie Isaacs, the fifteen-year-old founder of the Jamie Isaacs Foundation for Anti-Bullying, will discuss the need for parents and teachers to be aware of bullying situations, and provide various techniques for coping with the effects of bullying. Book Sale co-sponsored by the Friends of the Freeport Memorial Library

Starting Friday, September 30 from 1 - 8 p.m.; Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, October 2 from 1 to 4 p.m., the Library will be co-hosting a book sale of gently used books in the lobby of the Library. Bring a friend and buy a book or two.

Fall Festival

On Saturday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., come celebrate Fall at our fun family festival where we have will have something for everyone! Enjoy the petting zoo, spin art, ring toss, cotton candy, Italian ices, hot pretzels, an inflatable obstacle course, and one of our very own Freeport Fire Department trucks for kids to sit on! At 2 p.m., you can clap your hands and stomp your feet while listening to the Grumbling Rustic Bluegrass Band.

On Sunday, September 18 at 2:30 p.m., join the Long Island Composers Alliance as they perform a delightful concert filled with original piano solos, duets, and flute music, composed and performed by distinguished members of LICA.

The Latin Jazz Coalition

On Sunday, September 25 at 2:30 p.m., celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and listen to the rhythms of this multitalented Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and traditional American jazz band.

Grumbling Rustic Bluegrass Band

On Saturday, October 1, at 2 p.m., as part of the Library's fall festival, stomp your feet to the sounds of traditional bluegrass music!

An Afternoon of Italian Music

On Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 p.m., performer Gino Napoli will bring you to Italy as he presents authentic Italian music, from old Neapolitan classics to modern Italian songs.

Virtuoso Superstars of Classical Music

On Thursday, October 13 at 2 p.m., Philip Malamud will present the first of his annual reviews of some of the superstar performers playing in the New York area. You will hear the music of Beethoven, Mozart, and others.

The Broadway You Know and Don't Know

Presented by the Edgar J. Lehrman Memorial Foundation. On Sunday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m., join soprano/actress Helene Williams and husband Leonard Lehrman in this crossover program, as they sing a dazzaling array of Broadway love songs and showstoppers, from old favorites to undersung gems.

The Merrick Symphony Chamber Orchestra

On Sunday, october 23 at 2:30 p.m., the Merrick Symphony Chamber Orchestra wil provide us with an entertaining concert with compositions by Mozart, Bizet, Ravel, Vivaldi, Weber, Strauss Sr., Suk (arr.Hayman) with violinist Byung-Kook Kwak.

Free film

When they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew finds their plans interrupted by a hardened detective who is hell-bent on solving the case. Summer Blood Drive

On Thursday, August 25, from 1 pm to 8:30 pm, the LongIsland Blood Services will be at the Library to collect blood. Donors must be between the ages of 17 and 75 and weigh at least 110 pounds. Nineteenth-Century Vintage Baseball

During the month of August, curators Marc Josloff and Ed Elmore will display their unique collection of old baseball memorabilia. The reception for this event will be Saturday, August 27, 11 am to 1 pm.
