Paninis to Go! presented by the Passionate Palate

On Thursday, August 18 at 2:30 p.m., join chef JoAnn Tiranno of the Passionate Palate and learn all about panini making. There will be a sampling for all. Registration begins on Tuesday, July 5 at the Reference Desk. Limited to 20 adults.

Lawn Care and Our Environment

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County will be at the Library on Saturday, August 13 at 10 a.m. to discuss how to maintain a successful, low-maintenance lawn.

Bone Health: Prevention and Treatment

The Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island will be at the Library on Wednesday, August 10 at 2:30 p.m., to discuss the proper way to prevent and treat osteoporosis and osteoarthrities and how to live a more productive life with these conditions.

Core Four Business Planning

Join the Comminty Development Corporation on Thursdays, August 4,11,18, and 25 from 6-9 p.m., and learn how to set a business. The course provides planning concepts and tools to help existing and potential business owners determine the viability of their businesses. Scrapbooking for Adults presented by Kathy Giouvalakis

What you Should Know about Home Health Care

On Wednesday, July 20 at 2:30 p.m., the Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island will be at the Library for a discussion about home health care.

Fundamentals of Kayaking presented by Nick DeNezzo, president L.I. Kayak Club

On Friday July 15 at 7 p.m., learn about the different types of kayaks and which one is right for you. Basic strokes, rescues, how to buy a kayak, and the places where you can kayak will be discussed.

Paddle Smart presented by Richard Teufel of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary

On Monday, July 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., a paddle smart class will at the Library to discuss the parts of your padddle craft, the responsibilities of paddle crafting, how to operate a paddle craft safely, the legal requirements of boating, and what to do in a boating emergency. Registration begins Tuesday, July 5 at the Reference Desk. Class is limited to 20 adults. Cost is $25 per person. Please make out check or money order payable to USCHAUX13-06.

Obamawala: Tales of Hope and Harmony in Africa and America

Join Freeport author Bahadur Tejani on Wednesday, July 13 at 2:30 p.m., as he discusses his book, Obamawala, a colelction of stories and hope and harmony from East Africa and America. It is based on the inspiration created by Thurgood Marshall and the American dream of equality and opportunity when Marshall met the author as a student leader in 1963 in Uganda.

Bus trip: Luncheon Cruise on the Bateaux New York and Tour of Grand Central Station

On Tuesday, August 2, experience the ulimate fusion of gourmet dining and exceptional service in a setting unlike any other; rich hardwood floors surrounded by glass ceiling and walls reveals NYC's magnificent skyline at every turn. Enjoy a delicious luncheon on this boat. Afterward, we will enjoy a guided tour of the marvelous architecture of Grand Central Station. We depart from the Freeport Recreation Center at 10 a.m., and return approximately at 5:30 p.m.

Summer Jazz and Latin Classics

On Wednesday, July, 13 at 7 p.m., join Yamaha artist and pianist Alexander Wu wil perform selections from his new cd, Rhythm Road Across the Americas, a mix of jazz and Latin classics from both Northa nd South America.

Something Special Big Band

On Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m., Phil Costa will be back this summer leading his fabulous 17-piece Count Basie-style big band. They will be performing new jazz along with nostalgic hits from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Margot Leverett and Klezmer Mountain Boys

On Wednesday, August 10 at 7 p.m., Klezmer meets bluegrass! This eclectic mix of Jewish klezmer ands traditional bluegrass makes for some funny, soulful, and foot-stomping melodies.

Join Dr. Alstadter for a memorable afternoon of Chopin's piano music, along with a brief commentary on the composer's life and works.

George and Ira Gershwin: Here to Stay

On Wednesday, August 21 at 2 p.m., join Jeanette Reynolds, Tony Cassano, and Karl Schwartz in a musical cabaret featuring an uplifting array of Broadway, Hollywood, and classical songs from the Gershwin brothers.
