Freeport Author: Walter Chisholm


On March 14, 2007, Freeport author Walter Chisholm presented copies of his books, Prietos Queridos: Un Compendio de Poemas (Dear Brownies: A Compendium of Poems) and Mi Filosofia de Vida (My Philosophy of Life) to the Freeport Memorial Library.

Mr. Chisholm is primarily a writer in Spanish but also speaks fluent English and German. In 1989, Mr. Chisholm received his Ph.D. in agriculture from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. He has written many unpublished books, documents and articles and has lectured at several universities in Mexico.

Gale Virtural Reference

Freeport Memorial Library Purchases Powerful New Reference Tool


Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), a wonderful new electronic reference tool, is now available through the Library's subscription database website. It gives online access 24/7 to more than 330 encyclopedias and other reference books, all written by reputable scholars in their fields.

Just like the encyclopedia, the Gale Virtual Reference Library is the best place to go to get an authoritative overview of a subject new to you. There are bibliographies at the end of most articles leading you on to other reliable, reputable sources for more in-depth information.

Adaptive Technologies

The Freeport Memorial Library provides the following devices to assist patrons with visual impairments:


  1. Aladdin Video Magnification System is a low-vision magnifying device for reading books or documents.
  2. ZoomText magnifies anything on the computer screen, providing complete access to applications, documents, email, and the Internet.
  3. SARA (Scanning and Reading Appliance) translates printed materials into computerized speech.

These devices are located in the Job Education and Information Center (JEIC) located on the Library's lower level.
