Long Island Talking Books

Long Island Talking Book Library (LITBL) is a free library service for individuals who cannot hold, handle or see well enough to use regular print books. LITBL is a subregional library of the National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), the division of the Library of Congress that produces books and magazines in Braille and recorded media for people with visual or physical disabilities.

LITBL lends professionally recorded books and magazines (and the equipment needed to play them) to eligible residents on Long Island. Materials are sent to borrowers and returned by postage-free mail. LITBL currently serves about 4,000 readers, and lends over 100,000 talking books a year.

This program is made possible through the support of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System and the Nassau Library System, in an effort to ensure accessible library services to people with disabilities throughout Long Island.
_
If you have questios about the program or would to receive applications please contact LITBL at (631)286-1600 and ask for Talking Books.

Wi-Fi Hotspot

If your laptop computer or other portable device has a WiFi compatible network card, you can access the Internet via wireless technology on the adult side of Freeport Memorial Library. No special user names, encryption settings or passwords are required. Directions on how to connect to Internet is available on the Library's homepage.
In addition to the Internet, you can access the Library’s research databases and public catalog by going to the Library's subscription database page.
__
While WiFi is fast and easy to use, be aware that information passed through the local area network is NOT absolutely secure. The Library cannot assure the safety of your personal data when you use either our wired or wireless Internet access. It is recommended that WiFi users have up-to-date virus protection on their computers and wireless devices. Additionally, those who use the WiFi hotspots must abide by the Library’s Internet policy.
